TEN EYCK by Ugo Nonis

Please support Green Denim Initiative’s friend Ugo Nonis and check out his new solo show opening tonight, December 3rd, at SnP Gallery in Atwater Village!

Most of the time, as I paint, I think about people I know or situations I’ve encountered and I represent them in a way I can easily recognize.

My method is straight forward: I grab some markers and a canvas, and I begin. Focused on a specific relationship, I follow my hand and let it guide me. Eventually my mind wanders and I allow outside elements to influence me, losing myself in the process. After a while I step back to look at the work as a whole, the bigger picture. It often speaks to me, and I listen; and once I discover a new direction, I re-approach the canvas.

Abbot Kinney Festival

“Since its founding in 1984, the Abbot Kinney Festival has grown in size and popularity to become one of the largest community events of its kind in the country.  Each year, it attracts 150,000+ eco-conscious urban singles, couples, and families to the sunny beachside community of Venice on the last Sunday in September.

In addition to giving back to the community, the festival is best known for its unique array of local artisan crafts, live music, good food, and commitment to the environment. Activities and areas are designed to complement the eclectic, cutting-edge mix of over 100 boutiques, art galleries, restaurants, bookstores, design firms, coffee shops, clubs, salons, and much more along the famed bohemian-chic shopping district of Abbot Kinney Blvd., which stretches one mile from Venice Blvd. to Main St.”

Get out this Sunday and support Abbot Kinney’s community and local businesses! Our favorite part? Abbot Kinney’s commitment to make it an eco-friendly event!

FLEWNT SEVENS ART

Artwork by Flewnt Sevens

“I believe a true work of art has a life and a soul. Human as I am, I can only attempt to create it. I never quite succeed. For true art is not human, but divine. Nevertheless, it is that quest for a masterpiece that makes me who I am. I paint pictures to give hope joy.” -Flewnt Sevens

When most people think of graffiti, they think of outdoor murals and tags created with spray paint. While the streets are the most popular place to write graffiti, the truth is that writing in graffiti can be done with just a writing utensil and blank canvas or recycled material.

Flewnt creates with many sizes and mediums. He was inspired to create a collection of smaller pieces that incorporate all his style and depth. He decided to create the baby collection, which he makes from scratch with recycled wood and materials. They are each raw and unique. Each quality piece employs two or three dimensions and multiple colors. In many cases, 10 or more layers of paints are used to complete a piece. Flewnt believes ART outlives it creator and functions like a DNA sample which identifies the artist and expresses his message.

Green Denim Initiative loves Flewnt Sevens’s artwork – especially the denim pieces, located just down the street from us in Venice Beach! Contact Flewnt@gmail.com for your own Flewnt Sevens custom piece!

Ugo Nonis

“Born and raised in Paris, I moved to the United States in 2000, I lived in NYC then recently moved to LA. My process is very straight forward, I grab a canvas, some markers and start. Most of the time I think about people I know or situations I’ve encountered and represent them in a way only I can recognize. While painting I follow my hand and let it guide me, after a while I look at the work and I see how to move forward making shapes I love. I have rules that I follow and sometimes break. I like to try to paint on different surfaces as each surface feels different, I am always looking for the smoothest one. I really enjoy the feeling of my hand sliding and creating lines” – Ugo Nonis
